MUSEUMS

CRADLE OF AVIATION MUSEUM

The Cradle of Aviation Museum is an aerospace museum located in Garden City, New York on Long Island to commemorate Long Island's part in the history of aviation. It is located on land once part of Mitchel Air Force Base which, together with nearby Roosevelt Field and other airfields on the Hempstead Plains, was the site of many historic flights. In fact, so many seminal flights occurred in the area, that by the mid-1920s the cluster of airfields was already dubbed the "Cradle of Aviation",[1] the origin of the museum's name.

LONG ISLAND CHILDREN'S MUSEUM

Long Island Children’s Museum is a hands-on museum for kids and their grown-ups. You’ll find places to play, learn and have fun.

HICKSVILLE GREGORY MUSEUM

The Hicksville Gregory Museum evolved from the collections of local school administrator, Dr. Gardiner E. Gregory.  Fascinated by butterflies and moths, he had amassed thousands of specimens.  When a changing science curriculum emphasized the study of rocks and minerals, he developed another passion.  Granted a temporary charter for the museum in 1963, he and his wife Anne opened their Cottage Boulevard home to schoolchildren from Hicksville and surrounding communities.  The Gregory moved to its permanent home, the Heitz Place Courthouse, in 1973 after three years of extensive renovation of the building by hundreds of volunteers.

FIREHOUSE PLAZA ART GALLERY

The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery is open to the public, free of charge and is handicap accessible. Included in the five exhibitions presented each year are one person and/or group exhibitions, an annual Art Faculty Exhibit, a juried Art Student Exhibit and often a juried Open Competition Exhibit.

HOFSTRA MUSEUM

The Hofstra University Museum is dedicated to furthering the understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts. It helps people make deep and long-lasting connections to individual works of art as well as the varied cultures from which they originate. Through its collections and exhibitions, its sculpture gardens and its interpretative programs, the Museum is committed to being a vital partner in the educational, pedagogical, and cultural life of Hofstra University students, faculty and staff, as well as residents of the greater New York metropolitan region. It strives to achieve this mission by adherence to the highest professional standards in the collection, preservation, exhibition and interpretation of works of art.

LONG ISLAND MUSEUM FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The Long Island Museum for Science and Technology ("LIMSAT") is currently a work in progress, but when established on Museum Row LIMSAT will offer interactive science and technology exhibits to teach the importance of science in our lives. There are plans for LIMSAT to become a part of the Cradle of Aviation Museum, enhancing the institution with hands-on science and technology exhibits.

RAYNHAM HALL MUSEUM
